This coin honors one of our greatest military leaders and the 34th President
of the United States (1953-1961), Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Next to his neck is the letter “s”. This mint mark signifies that this is silver.
The other side of the coin, depicts a bald eagle landing on the moon
clutching an olive branch. This was inspired by the Apollo 11 landing on the
moon.
The lunar module that descended to the surface of the moon in 1969 was
called “the Eagle.”
The olive branch signifies that we came in peace.
These coins were minted from 1971 to 1974 either as uncirculated (unc) or
proof (mirror like finish).
